The basic premise ACT and therefore FACT are the following:
Accept what you cannot change (acceptance) – you cannot undo your history, but you can learn to hold it gently and not be defined by it.
Become psychologically flexible learn to be aware and accepting of the pain that comes into our lives, while pursuing what we value.
Identify values and commit to following them (commitment part). Acting in the service of personal values with either very small steps, or larger bolder moves to develop the ability to tolerate any discomfort that shows up. The aim is not to be symptom free, but to live a life that matters.
